The coronavirus pandemic has focused a spotlight on many aspects of our daily lives and routines that often have been taken for granted. Throughout history, the arts have endured difficult situations by adapting. Entertainment is accessible today from the safety and comfort of one’s own home – live streaming, produced recordings, scheduled broadcasts. However, these options do not allow for the immediacy, intimacy, and connections patrons experience while attending live performances. What will the performing arts venue look like now, next month, next year?
How do we interact with an arts environment in a post-pandemic world?
DLR Group, along with input from premiere arts organizations, has developed financial, operational, and physical strategies to successfully reposition arts facilities for the future.

Queuing
Use outdoor space as an extension of the lobby and to share theatre messaging.
Timed-ticket arrivals limit crowds using touchless ticket scanners and controlled traffic patterns.
Clear one-way paths of travel through the lobby
to concessions, retail, restrooms, and seating.
Repurpose meeting rooms and even outdoor spaces for program simulcasts.
Thoughtful multi-entry seat access and dynamic seating for safety and performance variety.
Careful protocols and subdivided green rooms, dressing rooms, and orchestra pit.
